In early August 2017, a terrible flood hit Che Tao commune (Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province) and swept away many houses and properties, including those of Giang A Xoai’s family – when He was still in elementary school. However, the saddest thing is that it was the terrible flood that took away A Xoai’s parents. After that terrible morning, A Xoai and his brother had to rely on each other to overcome the difficulties. There wasn’t enough food to eat, Xoai didn’t dare think about going back to school.

Understanding her situation, Yen Bai Provincial Youth Union introduced A Xoai to the “Nurturing the Future” program of the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund. It can be said that Giang A Xoai is one of the students “raised” by the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund – a fund that cares for and elevates ethnic minority students and children in the region. islands across the country.

A month later, A Xoai was welcomed by the aunts and uncles in the Foundation to Ho Chi Minh City to study and start a new life. In the first days of arriving in the city, A Xoai refused to talk or communicate with anyone. Teachers and friends all thought that A Xoai was depressed due to previous shocks that happened to him. Furthermore, due to difficult family circumstances, in the past A Xoai had to often go to the fields to help her parents. She could not speak Kinh fluently, so understanding A Xoai was even more difficult.

Listening and sympathizing, the school specially taught A Xoai, and his friends also tried to help A Xoai integrate into school. Thanks to everyone’s support and encouragement, A Xoai gradually opened up more. Currently, I have adapted to the new environment and am studying in grade 11 at Hong Ha Secondary – High School.

Recently, the story of A Xoai appeared in the first season of the program “Face of Vietnam”. The program introduces 11 outstanding faces from many different fields in 2023. They are individuals who, through their efforts and dedication, have brought Vietnam’s image to the world.
