Topic 1: “The Position of Women in Le Dynasty Penal Law.”
How are traditional Vietnamese women portrayed in Vietnamese feudalism? How is the structure of the traditional family and the influence of Confucianism on family relationships expressed? Is there any difference in patriarchy in Chinese and Vietnamese families?. In general, the above questions are the basics that have been approached and analyzed by many research works in history, sociology, anthropology, etc. On the other hand, the provisions regarding women in the Le Dynasty penal code are seen as unique indicators of Vietnamese feudalism. At the same time, it also shows the selective acculturation of Vietnamese lawmakers in harmoniously combining the two elements of law and customary law. Analyzing the above helps us better understand Vietnam’s feudal history as well as progressive regulations on women expressed in the family, property division, ancestor worship, and individualism.
