Fulbright Workshop: Make a Difference
“Finally, the Program aims, through these means, to bring a little more knowledge, a little more reason, and a little more compassion into world affairs and thereby to increase the chance that nations will learn at last to live in peace and friendship. ” – J. William Fulbright.
“Through scientific, educational, and cultural exchange, the Fulbright program hopes to bring to global affairs a little bit of knowledge, a little bit of reason, and a little bit of empathy, thereby increasing the opportunities for nations in learning from each other and living together in peace and friendship.” – J. William Fulbright.
Last October 11, 2017, Dr. Nguyen Minh Anh, head of the Department of Liberal Education (General Education Program) was appointed by the American Center, part of the Consulate General of the United States of America in Ho Chi Minh City, one of two places implementing the activities of the Fulbright program in Vietnam, invited to be an expert instructor in an Art therapy-oriented training session called “Fulbright Workshop: Make a Difference”. The theme of this workshop is “Think: Fulbright Memories” for Fulbright alumni, and some young people interested in the Fulbright scholarship program.
This is an activity within the strategy of the Fulbright Vietnam program to promote the internal resources of intellectuals who have received Fulbright scholarships in developing all aspects of political, economic, social, and cultural life – culture and education of the city and country.
It is known that Dr. Nguyen Minh Anh is a Fulbright scholar who came to the United States to study Art Therapy (a practical major in Clinical Psychology) at Drexel University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2015-2016. He is also the first Fulbright scholar from Vietnam to come to the United States to study Clinical Psychology. On this occasion, Master Minh Anh brought his “disciples” to the American Center so they could perform music and work as assistants in the first Art Therapy program at the United States Consulate General. United States in Ho Chi Minh City. Those three disciples are Nguyen Nhat Nam, Nguyen Hoang Long (students majoring in English, Hoa Sen University), and Luu Nguyen Thuc Anh (majoring in Business English, Hutech University). These people have participated in “learning from the community” projects led by teacher Minh Anh and are currently chairing the community activities group “English: Here & Now”, an English teaching project Applying visual arts to street children at Thao Dan Social Protection Center.
We believe that Hoa Sen students will always benefit from the spirit of community service and learning from the community at the Department of Liberal Education.
