Student Exchange Experience in the Netherlands: A Chance for Personal Growth and Expanding Knowledge

During the Autumn 2024 semester, Mộng Duyên, a student majoring in English Language at Hoa Sen University, had the opportunity to participate in a student exchange program in the Netherlands. After more than a month of living and studying there, she has visited major cities such as Zwolle, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and The Hague. From her personal experiences, Duyên has shared profound insights about this journey, highlighting personal growth and the valuable lessons learned in an international environment.

The European Student Exchange Journey: A Chance for Personal Growth

The European Student Exchange Program, especially in the Netherlands, not only provided academic knowledge but also helped Duyên develop essential life skills. She shared:

“Participating in this program has given me unforgettable and meaningful experiences. It was not only an opportunity to expand my knowledge but also a chance to accumulate life experiences, develop self-reliance, and broaden my global perspective.”

Every day, Duyên communicated and worked with peers from various countries. This not only improved her English proficiency but also provided an opportunity to gain deeper insights into the cultures, lifestyles, and working methods of other nations. Importantly, learning from the diverse work styles of international students helped her develop more creative and effective working methods.

Dynamic Learning Environment in the Netherlands

The Netherlands is renowned for its dynamic and open learning environment, and Windesheim University – where Duyên is studying – embodies this quality. The university frequently organizes creative activities and projects, encouraging students to explore new ideas.

Moreover, Mộng Duyên was particularly impressed by the Dutch people’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability. Daily habits like cycling and recycling have created a sustainable lifestyle. These positive influences have inspired her to adopt more environmentally friendly practices in her own life.

Advice for Students Considering a Study Exchange Program

Duyên also shared some advice for students planning to join an exchange program:

  1. Prepare for independent living: Managing personal expenses, time, and tasks are essential skills. This is also an opportunity for you to grow stronger and more confident.
  2. Always be open and ready to learn: Interacting with international peers and participating in activities will help you expand your knowledge, understand diverse cultures, and improve your language skills.
  3. Solid English proficiency: To adapt easily and confidently in an international environment, it is crucial to have a strong command of English. This will help you overcome culture shock and smoothly integrate into your new academic setting.
  4. Cherish every moment: The exchange period is a valuable opportunity to develop yourself and create beautiful, meaningful memories.

The Student Exchange program, especially in the Netherlands, has offered Hoa Sen University students a precious chance to learn, grow, and experience independent living. It is a journey that every student should embrace and appreciate, as it opens doors not just to education, but to a world full of potential and opportunities.
