ENGLISH-TEACHING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM ORGANIZED BY THE BRITISH COUNCIL

British Council has been organizing many activities and providing many free materials in May 2024, to support professional development for English teachers. Free online courses include:

  • “Motivating activities for primary”: Focus on motivating activities for elementary students using songs, games, and fun vocabulary activities.
  • “Managing learners and resources”: Instructions on how to manage teaching resources and group learning effectively.
  • “Gender in language education”: Focuses on gender issues in language education and how to overcome barriers effectively in the classroom.
  • “Inclusive Classroom”: Instructions on how to create inclusive learning spaces for classroom and identify practical strategies to overcome challenges.

The British Council also organizes a mini event about “Managing learning resources”, taking place on May 17, 2024. The event includes two webinars with experts from different countries, providing supplementary resources for teachers to use in the classroom. In addition, the event will also feature a “Teachers’ Hour” where three teachers will share about innovations and creativity in using various resources in their classrooms. This is a good opportunity for English teachers at primary, secondary and adult levels to learn and share individual experiences with the community. There is also a series of online events “Becoming a teacher: beyond training” on May 14, 2024 with Mr. Alan Maley, to help teachers develop professional skills and be more confident in lifelong learning

Additionally, British Council is also organizing classroom activities tailored to international occasions in May 2024. Typically, “My family” on the occasion of International Family Day, “Peacemakers and peace-breakers” on the International Day of Coexistence in Peace, and “World Bee Day” on the occasion of United Nations World Bee Day. These lectures-plans not only help students access content in a diverse and lively way, but also promote awareness of social and environmental values.

In addition, the British Council offers a range of supplementary learning materials, including podcasts, publications, and in-depth scientific articles. These materials are designed to support teachers in developing their teaching skills and approaching new topics in the English classroom. Moreover, British Council also provides a self-study book on teaching resource management, helping teachers master theoretical knowledge as well as apply practical methods in classroom and resource management.
